About Bay Area Brain Injury

Bay Area Brain Injury Rehab is a unique program that teaches evidence based treatment strategies to assist clients obtain higher level community goals such as return to school and/or work.  This program was developed out of a need of high functioning individuals not being served adequately in the standard health system.

We are specialized in cognitive rehabilitation. The primary goals of cognitive rehabilitation are to restore normal functioning and to compensate for cognitive deficits to maximize independence and quality of life. It entails an individualized program of specific skills training and practice plus metacognitive strategies.

The therapy process is client centered and typically takes place in two stages. The first stage involves a comprehensive assessment and rehabilitation planning. The second stage involves implementing the treatment plan. A comprehensive assessment is pertinent to identify the underlying limitations that interfere with the ability to function independently as well as strengths that support function. After identification of the areas of limitations, the tasks and environments in which they interfere with function are determined. Strategies are then chosen to address the limitations. The client then learns the strategies and begins to apply them.
